The Hypnobreath ©

Method

Hypnobreath© is a holistic and therapeutic method founded by Anaïs Pouchain based on the principle of altered states of consciousness. Combining hypnosis and breathwork, this method approaches different states of being in a comprehensive and unique way.

Throughout my practices and various training in hypnosis and breathwork, I became aware of the limitless power and significant importance of altered states of consciousness in an individual.

An altered state of consciousness (ASC) involves a slowing down of our brainwaves compared to those of our normal waking state, our everyday rational functioning. ASC is entirely natural and can occur during dreaming or engaging in activities that require focused concentration.

It can also be induced through meditation or specific methods used in breathwork and/or hypnosis sessions.

Some of these natural altered states of consciousness allow us to protect ourselves during traumatic experiences. For example, ASC can modulate brain circuits related to pain perception, potentially inducing mild sedation.

L’ASC

In Hypnosis

In hypnosis, we create a balance between both hemispheres of our brain, meaning between our logical/rational mind and our intuitive/creative mind. Inducing this state facilitates access to the client’s unconscious, making the largely untapped resources of their brain accessible.

The trance state in hypnosis is somewhat different from other ASC because it dissociates the conscious and the unconscious. This allows us to surpass the barriers of consciousness, making it easier to access the hidden potential that we all possess.

By creating a dissociative state, the subject distances themselves from their ego and conditioning. This makes it possible to access information that is disconnected from the ego and its conditioning.

L’ASC

In Breathwork

In breathwork, we play with the sympathetic and parasympathetic phases of the nervous system, which correspond to the fight-or-flight response and the relaxation and healing response. Inducing this state is achieved through voluntary and controlled hyperventilation that alters the levels of oxygen (O2) and carbon dioxide (CO2) in the body. The amygdala sends a distress signal to the hypothalamus to activate the sympathetic part of the nervous system (resulting in the release of cortisol and adrenaline). This intensifies heart rate, releases glucose, and leads to an electrolyte imbalance (CO2 levels in the blood start to decrease), causing alkalosis (sensations like tetany, tingling, and cramps). This transient hypofrontality is a crucial step toward achieving ASC. During this trance induction, the parasympathetic system comes into play, the hypothalamus releases endorphins, and the heart rate slows down. The body enters a state of profound relaxation.

In Hypnobreath

It’s not possible to truly separate the mind, body, and soul. These different aspects are part of a single cybernetic information system. Why not use this same assumption to explore these different points from a single focal point?

The induction in the Hypnobreath© method encompasses various concepts. The mind is covered by conversational hypnosis and is strengthened by the natural dissociation of the body provided by breathwork (intensive breathwork), together giving access to the soul.

The therapeutic process can begin during this dissociative phase or during reintegration.

THE HYPNOBREATH EXPERIENCE

Hypnobreath sessions include various tools such as hypnosis, breathwork, shadow work, NLP, therapeutic music at different frequencies, and much more.

Each session is different and revolves around a predefined theme. I like to incorporate into each of them a hypnotic meditation that gradually leads to an altered state of consciousness, introspective exercises derived from coaching, guided breathing exercises, and the unfolding of the method itself and what it offers on different levels: physical, mental, and emotional.

The session takes place lying down (a blanket and an eye mask are provided). I will start with music (each playlist is unique and created by Anaïs Pouchain), and a few minutes after starting two-stage Pranayama by breathing through the mouth, you will immediately feel the energy in your body and the room increasing (this intense mouth breathing lasts for nearly 30 minutes). The experience can lead to intense physical, mental, and emotional release. So, I’m here to guide you on this unique journey with gentleness and safety.

When the first part ends, you will be asked for regular breathing while you go deeper into an altered state of consciousness (the reintegration phase lasts for 10 to 15 minutes). This fundamental step allows you to silence your ego and limiting thoughts. Through hypnotic protocols and the body recovery process, the subject can access certain buried resources and tap into their unlimited potential in a completely dissociated manner.

The altered state of consciousness is unique and specific to each individual. Therefore, none of the sessions I conduct are alike, and each experience is different in terms of individual energy, theme, playlist, and hypnotic protocol. This is why my clients keep coming back. By practicing Hypnobreath, be prepared to evolve into many physical and emotional changes.

Do you feel the need to reconnect with your body? Go deeper? Explore parts of yourself you didn’t even know existed? Learn more about yourself? Change your perspective? Release beliefs and patterns that no longer serve you?

Hypnobreath© sessions lead to self-exploration through various facets.

No prerequisites are required to participate in a Hypnobreath© session with me. However, this practice is equivalent to a high-intensity sports session and is, therefore, not recommended for everyone.

F&Q

On a physical level: You can expect sensory changes (contractions, temperature variations, cramps, dizziness, nausea, etc.). These changes are due to alterations in the CO2 levels in the body and changes in pH.

On a mental level: It is possible (and normal) that the reptilian part of the brain may attempt to regain control of the situation. Due to the altered breathing (hyperventilation), the sympathetic nervous system interprets the situation as a threat. This is one of the most interesting aspects of breathwork, in my opinion; this is where we test our resilience, courage, and determination to lead to self-esteem and letting go. When you surpass these possible thought patterns, an altered state of consciousness can be achieved (leading to the release of happiness hormones, new perspectives, and even a complete change in mindset).

On an emotional level: Because the mind no longer interferes in the same way, the release of emotions becomes much smoother and can manifest through tears, laughter, and more.

Due to its intensity (voluntary and controlled hyperventilation), breathwork is not suitable for everyone. It is not recommended for individuals who cannot engage in intense physical activity. Pregnant women should avoid it, as should individuals who have recently undergone surgery or have mental health issues or heart-related conditions. For asthma and other lung-related illnesses, it is strongly advised to consult with a medical professional. However, with the use of hypnosis, it is entirely possible for me to adapt and use breathing exercises with a milder dissociation in such cases.

Tetany occurs during a breathwork session because there is less calcium in the blood while the pH level increases (due to the lowered levels of carbon dioxide caused by the altered breathing). During controlled and voluntary hyperventilation, carbon dioxide is eliminated so quickly that the body can’t keep up and produce enough. When returning to calm, nasal breathing, the body can regain its balance, and tetany subsides.

You won’t lose control during the session. Your personal values and beliefs are still present during hypnosis, so you cannot do anything against your deeply held will. You are simply allowing yourself to explore a broader range of possibilities. Your unconscious mind protects your integrity, and the most likely outcome is that you will come out of the trance fully. Additionally, in therapeutic hypnosis, the practitioner usually provides suggestions with your best interests in mind.

It’s not possible to remain stuck in a state of trance. The trance state in hypnosis is a natural phenomenon that we experience many times during the day. During a hypnosis session, your conscious mind is not eliminated; it is redirected. Moreover, you don’t sleep in hypnosis. The brain has remarkable and self-regulating capabilities to ensure your safety.

You will not be unconscious or asleep during hypnosis. Hypnosis is a state between sleep and wakefulness but not actual sleep. It’s referred to as an altered state of consciousness, not sleep. Your conscious mind is redirected, and the therapist communicates with your unconscious to access resources beyond the ego. This is why some people may feel like they haven’t been in hypnosis after a session, as the depth of hypnosis can also affect your experience and perception.

As your guide, my duty is to empower you to become responsible and autonomous through our sessions. I will encourage you to observe the changes in your life with kindness. Additionally, I may assign tasks to facilitate further improvement. If you wish, you can schedule further appointments in the same manner.

To assist you in continuing the work we’ve done together, you’ll also receive support via email after our sessions.

I recommend contacting me by email before scheduling an appointment. This allows me to ensure that your request falls within the scope of hypnosis and allows for a customized session. This initial contact will also give you an idea of what hypnosis is like with me and allow you to decide whether to continue the work. Sessions are available worldwide via video conference or, on certain days, in person at Anaïs’s office in Saujon (17600), near Royan.

F&Q
